Lakers: part time

A friend of mine was giving me a hard time because i was rooting for the Lakers because 1. Im not from Los Angeles (originally) and 2. I never even mentioned them during the regular season... well those are 2 really good arguments and without context i would immediately be thrown out of the courtroom as a frontrunning floozy.. heres the context: I wouldnt call myself a Lakers fan, I am not a part of Laker Nation. No Kobe jerseys hang in my closet.. not even a sticker can be found in my house.. I most likely wont even watch the parade on Wednesday.. What i am a fan of is greatness and Kobe is just that, and when it came down to it, i happened to like the Lakers more than the Magic and rooting is just part of my competitive nature.. A good reference point for this is the Bulls, I never considered myself a Bulls fan but Ill be damned if i ever missed a playoff game and the opportunity to watch Jordan do something spectacular.. I wanted to be there so i can have perspective when i told my grandkids about it someday. No whether or not Kobe is Jordan can be debated at length but the truth is at the very least he allows the argument to even exist. I enjoy watching him because hes evolved, selfishness gave way to a team mentality and leadership... why wouldnt I root for that.

Scary thought.

what does it say about me (any my wife) that Im excited about the fact that "For the Love of Ray J" is returning for a second season?

Detroit, Michigan

I've been spending a lot of time in Detroit lately and until recently I resisted it. Its amazing to see the pride of the people from this city.. Seeing the wreckage of a city abandoned is much different than reading about it in a paper. There is incredible architecture on its last legs, entire neighborhoods boarded up and people hanging on.. literally. It really represents the economic meltdown in almost a cartoonish way. I always stay in Birmingham which is about 20 minutes away from downtown but worlds apart. Boutique shops, smiling faces and zero graffiti with a bit of a utopia vibe. Its truly strange to see the difference a few miles makes.. I suppose my point is that Detroit is growing on me, not in a Ima move my family here way, but in a way that tugs at my Philly roots.. its the city pride thing, you can see it on peoples faces and feel it in the air of the abandoned buildings.. Hopefully someday the city will stage a comeback, theres plenty of people here willing to put that on their back.

Stop the Presses..

I have found an artist that plain and simple blows me away.. Reminds me of everything I love about music and the business of music. Stay tuned....

Lauryn

She made one of my favorite albums of all time and proceeded to go batshit crazy... If Mariah can come back from the brink Lauryn Hill sure the fuck can. Shes got more talent than the Top 100 Billboard chart and its all going to waste with bottles of Lexapro and God knows what else... Let the comeback begin.

Em's Undefeated

Bubba arrested in FL.. (minor drug charge)

Bubba is one of my favorite artists Ive ever worked with.. I remember spending alot of time in Athens GA getting to know his friends and family before Ugly was put out. (lots of drinking and smoking) He was everything you want an artist to be.. a perfect combination of confidence and humility.. I havent spoken to him in years, he went on to have a huge hit with Ms FatBooty in 2006 after he left Interscope.. He has his issues like we all do which hopefully gets him writing again.
