I've been spending a lot of time in Detroit lately and until recently I resisted it. Its amazing to see the pride of the people from this city.. Seeing the wreckage of a city abandoned is much different than reading about it in a paper. There is incredible architecture on its last legs, entire neighborhoods boarded up and people hanging on.. literally. It really represents the economic meltdown in almost a cartoonish way. I always stay in Birmingham which is about 20 minutes away from downtown but worlds apart. Boutique shops, smiling faces and zero graffiti with a bit of a utopia vibe. Its truly strange to see the difference a few miles makes.. I suppose my point is that Detroit is growing on me, not in a Ima move my family here way, but in a way that tugs at my Philly roots.. its the city pride thing, you can see it on peoples faces and feel it in the air of the abandoned buildings.. Hopefully someday the city will stage a comeback, theres plenty of people here willing to put that on their back.
